biting sensation

I felt like someting was biting or poking (it felt sharp) around the nipple in my bra and when I checked there was blood in my bra and my nipple had a crack like area where the nipple meets the areoli. It feels OK now but I wonder, is there any new kind of cancer that starts like that? Is this something I should worry about? I am 53 and never had any problems with my breasts before. I have heard about the cancer that starts like a bug bit or something, so I am concerned.
